לא בדיוק שיר אבל מה שמרגש אותי ונותן לי דחף זה הסיפור מאחורי היצירה.
בזמן הכתיבה שלה בטהובן כבר התחרש לחלוטין ולא שמע מעולם את הביצוע של היצירה המדהימה הזו מעבר לדמיונו. האובדן הזה היה תהליך שנים רבות בהן לאט לאט איבד את שמיעתו וכמעט את דעתו. הוא היה קרוב מאוד להתאבדות מספר פעמים אבל בסופו של דבר הצליח להתגבר על המצב שלו. הנחישות, התשוקה הבלתי נדלית למה שהוא עושה גורמת לי כל פעם מחדש להתרגש ולהבין שלא משנה כמה המצב נורא, וכמה מרגישים מוגבלים, תמיד אפשר להמשיך קדימה דרך כל המעצורים.
במיוחד החלק האחרון בו המקהלה שרה (וכנראה גם החלק הכי מוכר ביצירה הזו) מלא בכזו אופטימיות ואהבה לחיים שמגיעה בניגוד לצער הכי גדול של המלחין. כל פעם מחדש זה מפעים אותי וגורם לי לאהוב אותה עוד יותר.
