I am an Arabian Muslim Israeli citizen who wears a head cover and lives in “Kfar-Kasem”. If you have ever heard about the massacre that has happened there years ago, you are probably familiar with the place. It is not easy to live with all of these different components of self.
What is the link between this and between the song and why am I explaining this? Given all these components, politics is an unalienable part of my life, it influences every part of it and it changes it all the time. I am an Arabian Muslim with a head cover that had suffered over the years from many cases of racism such as repetitive attempts to removing my head cover, situations in which one was trying to injure me, and infinite cursing and insulting from people around me. All of this only because of my appearance. I am judged by my look and I am seen by others as a bad person, as a terrorist, or in a times where many stabs occur, I am seen as a stabber. but actually, I had never in my life hurt someone so it’s not only impossible for me to do something like this, it’s even impossible for me to imagine it.
This attitude that I had received, actually surprised me. I come from a family which contains members from other religions and the same is my name, has the same meaning in the three religions (عدن,עדן,Adan,(Eden)) is very traditional, respectful and full of values. I was raised and taught to love and to give with all of my heart, and now, I only get back hate, disrespect and social rejections. I always believed that it is not right to judge people because of how they look and I have always believed that we are all human - there are bad people and good people - but a bad person is not representing anyone but himself. I feel like all of this logic thinking is kind of blowing away with everyone speaking about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and forgetting that there are people who are standing right in the middle of it - the Israeli Arabs.
The song begins with the fact that we came from Adam and Eve and with the fact that the most beautiful things that we have as humans are mercy, love, kindness and the tendency to be good. It goes on and says that together we could do things better, for example, we can do better by using common values from the religion, with no matter for what color we are, no matter if one is wealthy or poor, we need to respect one another, because we are all from Adam and Eve. The words of this song make inspiration arouse, I felt very close to this song and therefor took it and linked it to my situation in life. My thoughts are in this song because no matter who the person is or what his color is, we are equal and together we can do a lot. The song gives me the filling that we all have the power and ability to change the present.
I have to say that when I signed up to this course it interested me a lot and I was curious to know how this musical dialogue can be useful as a tool to prevent conflicts between groups. Although we are not much into the core of the course yet , and although it hadn't begun long ago, I am starting to understand that music is one of the things that brings us together despite the differences. Music really is a tool for peace, serenity and relaxation.
